DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide, meaning it consists of nine amino acids, that has been investigated for its relationship with sleep physiology, circadian processes, and neuroendocrine regulation. Early research identified DSIP in connection with slow-wave, or delta, sleep, which led to its name and decades of experimental investigation.

Research involving DSIP has explored its potential influence on sleep initiation, sleep architecture, circadian rhythms, and physiological processes associated with the sleep-wake cycle. Researchers have also investigated DSIP-like activity in relation to neurotransmitter signaling, hormonal regulation, stress responses, and other neurophysiological processes.

Small human studies have examined synthetic DSIP in both healthy volunteers and individuals experiencing insomnia. Some early experiments reported changes in measures such as sleep latency, total sleep time, or sleep efficiency. However, results have not been consistently strong across studies. A later double-blind study in chronic insomnia concluded that the observed effects were weak and that short-term DSIP treatment was unlikely to provide major therapeutic benefit.

For that reason, DSIP is best presented as an experimental research peptide associated with the scientific study of sleep and circadian physiology, rather than as a proven sleep aid or treatment for insomnia.
